When it comes to owning cats, it’s essential that you choose one that will fit your personality. If you want to know what they are, our friends at Pet MD were kind enough to provide a list of tips for us to keep in mind. The link is after our commentary.
Many people say that having pets will help develop a sense of responsibility. Aside from providing for your pet’s basic needs, you also need to shower it with your love and affection and take care of its health.
One of the things that the list gave emphasis on is testing yourself for feline allergy. Many people are unaware of it, so that’s why you don’t just adopt any cat without having it checked with a veterinarian. Also, if there is someone who’s pregnant in your home, you have to take extra caution. Cats can carry a parasite (Toxoplasma Gondii) that can cause an infection (Toxoplasmosis). If pregnant women are infected with this, it can cause certain problems which can lead to a miscarriage. Take preventative measures so that the safety of the mother and the baby is ensured. One tip is to avoid adopting and handling stray cats.
Looking for the perfect pet could be compared to looking for a future spouse. It has to suit your personality and your lifestyle. If not, all hell will break loose. 😉
Always weigh the pros and cons of owning a kitten or a mature adult cat. Kittens get easily injured, are very active and mischievous, takes more time to train and feed and are less aware of their surroundings.
On the other hand, adult mature cats are easier to manage. They are well aware of their surroundings, are already trained and are less likely to get into trouble. So try to think about these things first.
Try looking for pets at the Humane Society or any other pet adoption services. It’s nice if you’re able to help a cat find a new home.
Cats are lovable creatures, and as long as you are prepared to take care of them, they will be with you for a very long time.
