How To Introduce A New Cat To Other Cats And Dogs

This short video offers loads of information about how to introduce a new cat to other cats or dogs in a household.

Cats are territorial creatures and naturally, they don’t like to share – so expect that the introduction process between the animals will require a lot of patience. Many owners make the mistake of throwing the cats together in one room and letting nature take its course. A hurried introduction can set the cats up to become enemies and an ideal introduction process will take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Sometimes, it can even take months for the two pets to get used to each other so be patient.

If you see any signs of aggression, break them up immediately by clapping your hands or making a loud noise to distract them. If the standoff continues, slowly guide them into separate rooms to calm them down. If a fight breaks out, never pick one up to separate them unless you want to end up with scratches all over your arms.

It is also important for the owner to set up the environment by putting cat trees and toys in the house. This way they can release their tension, divert their attention and just have fun.
