I Am Maru – The Funniest Cat On The Planet

Maru is a male Scottish Fold cat (with peaked ears) who became famous on the internet because of his adorable YouTube videos. He has become an internet superstar and has now appeared on several TV shows in the US and many other countries.

In November 2007, Satoru Konno (Maru’s owner) decided to start a blog to share pictures and stories of his cat. When he uploaded Maru’s first YouTube video in 2008, it was then that Maru became so popular. Maru’s videos have been viewed more than 46 million times by cat lovers from all over the world.

Maru has always been a bit of a pudgy cat – he already weighed 5 pounds or 2.4 kilograms when he was only four months old. In fact, his name “Maru” means “round” in Japanese. According to his owner however, he was not named because of his round shape but the name sure does suit him.

Maru is undeniably adorable. He is obsessed with boxes of all sizes and likes to dive into them or use them as beds. He is mischievous and loves attention – sometimes he will act silly on purpose in order to get people to notice him! Next to boxes, his next favorite thing is water. Maru will gladly join his owner in the bathroom and swat the water with his paws.
