Venus The Amazing Chimera Split Face Cat

Meet Venus, the amazing “split face” cat. Recently, she has been all over the news because of her unique features. Looking at her, she looks like two different cats fused together as one. Her eyes are of different colors and even her whiskers are black on one side and white on the other! Venus looks truly remarkable.

Her owners got her from a dairy farm in North Carolina as a stray and they instantly fell in love with her because she looked like a combination of their two cats; an orange tabby and a black tuxedo. But why does she look like that?

Many scientist speculate that she is and example of a chimera, a condition where two embryos merge together in the womb forming one individual. However, some reject this idea. Professor Lyons, who studies cat genetics, said her theory was that the black coloration was randomly activated in all the cells on one side of her face while she was developing. In other words, Venus looks the way she does because of pure luck. They still can’t fully explain the reason why the cat has different eye colors – adding more mystery to her. Whatever the reason is, Venus is uniquely attractive and loved by many even though she’s different.
