Cats get scared by a lot of things but according to the video, there is one thing that scares them the most and that is to be homeless. There is a common notion that shelter cats are feral and damaged in some way but this is not the case; lots of healthy cats are waiting in shelters ready to be adopted! Before bringing the new member of the family home, here’s the things you should do beforehand:

1. Cats are territorial creatures and it might be too overwhelming for her to be placed in the middle of a strange territory the first day you bring her home. Chances are, she’ll run and hide somewhere. Do her a favor and provide her a place to call her own for the first few days.

2. Her ‘sanctuary’ should provide all of her basic needs (litter box, food and water bowls, scratching post, toys etc.) You will need to spend time with her as well so make sure there’s a comfortable place for you too.

3. Cover up holes which your cat can slip into. Also, cats like climbing so remove everything from the high shelves.

4. It is recommended to buy a cat tree for your new feline friend. Cats like to survey their territory on high places. The highest perch on the tree will surely be her new favorite spot.
